After standing in the freezing cold for over 90 mins at the sunrise viewing point 1, it was time to trek up mount bromo itself. Across the black sands plains were a troop of small horses that resembled more like depressed mules than real prideful stallions. Although it was very cheap to ride one of them to go to the foot of steps leading up to mount bromo (~ 35000 IDR per way), the horses looked too depressed and burdened for us to consider. We decided to walk the distance ourselves, which turned out to be a better option as you could hop around the uneven volcanic sand dunes and stop at different points to take really good shots. The only drawback was perhaps the dust kicked up by the horses in their path, and the ‘turd grenades’ dropped by them along the way! 🙂
